Walking alongside you , holding a safe space to be yourself. Helping you grow and develop, both mentally and emotionally.

Whether you have had counselling before or this is your first experience, let me be here for you. Whether you are looking around for something specific or not sure where to start, why not send me an email. I offer a free telephone assessment. It is teamwork and although I have spent years training .. YOU are the expert of yourself , I would love to get to know you and build a therapeutic relationship. You may feel worse before you feel better and the journey will not always be easy or smooth but , together we can achieve so much !

Welcome to my counselling page. This is me, Rachael O’Brien. Life can be so difficult sometimes can’t it!? I have experienced some challenges through my life.. both personally and with those close to me. This led to the start of my psychology and counselling journey. It has not been easy at times but finding ways to manage and cope became my passion. I believe everyone should experience counselling and talking therapies. You do not need to wait until things become unbearable before you find someone that you can trust to discuss what life may have thrown your way. Whether you are struggling or just want something to change. I am here to listen and walk through any difficulties you may be experiencing.
I am a Level 7 qualified Integrative counsellor. This means I tailor your therapy to suit you and your needs. I respect individuality and therefore we can work together deciding the approach used and then achieving goals that we collaborate on.

I have spent the last 9 years studying. I gained Bsc (hons) in Psychology and Counselling. I finished my MSc Counselling with University of Northampton with a Level 7 Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip). I have worked in the care industry for over 20 years. I have over 10 years experience working within community and hospital, mental health settings. More recently as a Rehabilitation Assistant in a medium secure setting and working in a Brain injury rehabilitation ward. I have been a volunteering with Mind charity for the last three years, counselling.
I do not tend to read the newspapers, nor do I like to watch the news. I do however, keep up to date with newsletters, journals and research papers. Learning and development is crucial in psychological care. I aim to attend ongoing training in areas I feel my clients will benefit from, but I do not ever claim to know everything. The world is wonderfully diverse and each and everyone of us is unique. While I continue my professional development I aim to learn each client in a deep and meaningful way.
